February 7th-12th of 2013, myself along with 5 others from World Outreach Center went to New Orleans, Louisiana to join about 120 others to hit the streets during one of the biggest parties known to the United States. Mardi Gras is a time when evil is at its peak in Louisiana, which makes it an awesome opportunity to shine the light of Jesus, because light shines brightest in the dark. Trust me, this isn’t just some nice cliché. Actually, it is completely true. There is a much greater contrast between the two in a place like that. It is in moments like this that I believe you can really tell the difference between “Walking in the Spirit” vs. “Walking in the flesh”. I say this not to discuss theology or sound super spiritual, but to encourage those who have never done anything like this to give it a try. With that being said, let me tell you a few stories that will hopefully encourage you and inspire you to take a leap of faith and begin ministering to those you encounter daily!

For 3 days in a row, we would eat breakfast, have some personal time, worship and teaching, eat lunch, and then hit the streets from about 2:30-11:30pm. Each day we experienced some great opportunities to share the love of Jesus. From feeding the poor, praying for the sick, the addicted, and the hurting, to preaching the Gospel to those who needed to hear it again and even to some who had never heard it before.

The First Salvation

The first person my team encountered to make a decision to follow the Lord was an event I will never forget. We were walking down the street when suddenly a young man came running out of a bar, grabed my friend Jason and asked him what it is that His shirt says. Jason told him “Forgiven Ministries” and the man began to tear up. Jason asked if he was ok, to which he replied “No”. Jason then asked if he could pray for him and as he did the man began weeping. Shocked by what was going on, Jason didn’t know what else to say except offer the man Jesus. When he did, the guy fell straight to his knees. After encountering Jesus, he stood back up and we were able to talk with him. The man had gotten back from Afghanistan about a year ago and was dealing with some pretty heavy stuff. Thankfully Joe Snow, who happened to deal with these same issues prior to his passionate relationship with the Lord, was there to minister to the man as well. Radically saved is the only way I can describe that moment. Praise God!

The Un-Expected

Me and my group of friends were blessed to be able to minister side by side with our Senior Pastor from World Outreach Center, Pastor Frankie Powell. He is an awesome man, who loves the Lord and is passionate about seeing people encounter the presence of God. And that is exactly what happened to a young lady one night at Mardi Gras. While walking down the street, Pastor Frankie and Jason Farmer were both “Propositioned” by two young Prostitutes. When they realized that the men weren’t going to accept their offer, they walked away in different directions. As we rounded the corner Pastor Frankie saw one of the young ladies standing up against the side of a building and decided He was going to “Proposition” her, but in a Jesus kind of way. He simply told her about the love of Jesus, and that it didn’t matter where she was, what she had done, or was doing, and that Jesus wanted to know her and be known by her. He asked if she wanted to follow Jesus and she said yes! God is good!

Fried Chicken & The Gospel

The last night of the trip we went out to the streets and had a praise rally until about 4:30. Then, me and the two guys I was with stopped to get coffee, walked around for a while and then stopped to eat dinner at Popeye’s. Up to this point we still had not talked to anyone. Needless to say, I was anxious to get out and minister to people on the streets. But while we were at Popeye’s, eating our fried chicken, I was helped twice by a young man named Carl. He was very helpful and had an awesome attitude that actually impacted me in a such a way that I wanted to thank him after we had finished eating. As I did so, I realized this was a significant moment and not just happen stance. So, I began telling him that I believed his attitude and helpfulness was a gift God had given him and that He had a specific purpose for his life. He told me this was the second time that someone had told him that in the same week. I told him it was obvious that God was pursuing him and asked him if anyone had ever talked to him about Jesus. To my surprise he said no! He told me he had been to church before and heard “about” him, but no one had ever actually took him aside and explained the Gospel to him. So I told him about Jesus, why He came, what He did, and what that means for us who give up everything to follow Him. Carl’s face lit up. He was smiling from ear to ear. I asked him if he wanted to follow Jesus and he said YES!!! So, I prayed with him briefly (he was still on duty at his job) and told him a few things to help him with his new life choice and went on my way. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to tell this guy about Jesus, how receptive he was to the gospel, and that he ended up making a decision that will affect his life from now until eternity. With man it was an impossible outcome, but with God…It was made possible. Praise God.

The other night me and a couple guys went to downtown Birmingham, to a place called 5 points south to minister to the people in that area. We usually go ever other Friday night, and this past friday was supposed to be the night we stay home, however we randomly decided that we wanted to go anyway. I’m glad we did, it was a great night. We met a homeless man who we haven’t seen before. So I decided I would go and talk to him, by myself at first. Usually I tell people who I am and then ask if they need prayer for anything, however when I began to approach this man, things went a little differently. Instead of me saying the first word, he spoke up and began to talk to me like we had known each other for a long time… So I acted as if we did. We just had a conversation and then he said we should go over there and hang out with the two guys I came with. So we walked over and began talking to them. Up to this point he still had no idea who we were or what we were doing. Then I told him and he acted a little surprised. He immediately put on his “I love Jesus face”, thinking we were going to try and tell him how bad he is, that he needs Jesus, and will go to hell tomorrow if he doesn’t pray a prayer tonight. However, when we responded with love and told him we cared about him, that Jesus cares about him, that He has a purpose for his life, and that Jesus was a real man, who loved, cared for, and understood real people, just like him, he was shocked. As a matter of fact he was so astounded by what we were telling him that he listened to us intently for about an hour and a half+ as we sat down with him, fed him, and helped him understand who Jesus really is. It was an awesome opportunity to share the Gospel in a real, relevant, and powerful way. By the end of the night he asked if he could go with us to our church. We said yes, and sure enough, sunday morning, bright and early, He calls me, Excited to go and experience Christ through His local body. This is what I live and breath for. Praise God.

Hello all,

I am so happy to have made it back home safely from my trip to China. I first just want to thank all those who supported me, whether financially or through prayer, that made it possible for me to travel to China. You guys are awesome. It is because of your support and the Grace of God that this trip was a successful one. I could not have had this opportunity if it wasn’t for you. Again, thank you so much.

As I just stated, the trip was a huge success. We traveled to a city in China and taught an English club at a local minority school. A majority of the kids can already read and write English very well, however speaking English is something that is a little more difficult. The English teachers are all Chinese and so it makes it hard for them to teach the kids proper pronunciation as well as even have a conversation with them in English. This is where we came in. We were sent to have conversations with them and help them to pronounce their English words properly. We had a very fun time and the experience is one I won’t forget. In the evenings we had the privilege of going to dinner with some of the teachers and doing our best to build relationships with them, just to let them know we love them and that we care about them and their students. We had some of our best times relaxing and eating with these teachers. After leaving that city the rest of the trip was mostly travel and sight seeing. We got to walk on the Great Wall of China. So cool! We also saw Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. It was great to be able to experience all of these different places. Overall this trip was the coolest thing I have ever done, (no exaggeration). I am thankful I had the opportunity.

The plans God seems to have for me this upcoming year are very exciting. I will continue to attend Ambassador’s College School of Ministry and complete a second year of studies. I will also return as a second year Intern on staff at World Outreach Center. This is a great opportunity. It comes with many challenges, and a significant amount of spiritual, mental, and perhaps even physical growth. My area of focus and learning this second year will be on missions and media. I will be living in a home along with 2-3 other first year interns and will be challenged as a leader to help train and disciple these young men. I am very excited about this next step in my walk with Jesus, about where He is taking me, how I’m getting there, and the challenges I will face along the way. However I need your help now more than ever before. Because I will be living in a home with interns and also working as an intern and going to school full time, I will not be able to work to support myself. Therefore I have been given the challenge of raising the support needed to pay for this next year of training. This also is part of my training as a missionary. The total cost of the year is $7,000. This will cover my tuition, housing, supplies, and resources necessary for the internship as well as a ten-day missions trip to Ecuador in September of this year.

Because this next year of my life is going to cost so much, I have made plans for the summer to help raise the money. I have come home for the summer and already started working a full time job at Burk Lake on the maintenance crew. I have been blessed with this opportunity and am going to save as much money as I can to help pay for the upcoming year. I am also planning a scrap metal drive. I will be collecting all types of metal, wether it’s junk in you closet, storage shed or anything else. I would be glad to come pick it up where it lies and haul it away for you. I will collect the metal and scrap it at a local scrapyard. I believe these two methods will do great and God will bless my efforts. However I need you. I would ask you to pray and consider supporting me financially. Whether that is with a one-time gift or a monthly commitment. I can’t do this without you and I have confidence that you will partner with me in order to not only help me get the training I need, but also make it possible for God to use me in mighty ways to help others. You have been faithful in the past and I know that you will be in my future. Thank you so much for considering this opportunity to make a difference in my life and the Kingdom of God.

It is good to be home in Woodbridge, VA visiting with friends and family. I arrived in town thursday on the 17th of May. I drove home in about 11 hours and was greeted, as soon as I got off the interstate, by Northern VA traffic. Just like I remember… However, I am glad to be home.

Since I arrived in town I have been on the move. I began working a full-time job at Burke Lake Park for the summer and so far I have enjoyed it very much. I have also been preparing for my upcoming trip this june, visiting churches, and spending time with family and friends before I go. I am excited about what God has planned for this trip and this summer.

Following this summer I have the opportunity to return to Oneonta, AL for another year of school as well as working on staff as an intern with World Outreach Center. Because this will be my second year, things will change quite a bit. I will be living in a 3 bedroom house along with anywhere between 2-4 other interns. This house will be provided by the church. The internship will be more intense, with a focus on media and missions work. However, in order to move on to this next phase I will have to raise support. Approximately $7,000 will cover everything except for my food and gas, and to cover these I will work a part-time job while in AL. I am very excited and thankful for this opportunity to learn and be trained in the area of my gifts and calling. God is preparing me for my future on the foreign mission field. More information about this next step will be provided soon.

But for just a moment I would like to be transparent and share a few things about my spiritual life and my relationship with Jesus. Perhaps it will be an encouragement to some. Over the past several weeks I have been going through transition. This can be hard for some and perhaps easy for others. For me it has been difficult. Before I returned here to Virginia I felt as if my passion for Jesus and anything spiritual had been zapped. Like I was going through the motions. I was praying and spending time with Jesus daily, yet the feeling of knowing I was in His presence was almost completely gone. I felt separated from the only thing that gives me life, Jesus. This kept on for several weeks. Through the wisdom of others I realized God was preparing me for my future, as a matter of fact, for this summer and the transition that would take place as I come home and work hard to reach my goal. Let’s be honest. $7000 is a lot of money to raise in just a few months. For this to become a reality, the faith inside of me will have to be activated and acted upon. God simply wanted me to trust Him in those moments and know that He was with me and that He hadn’t left me and that He was still caring for my every need. Through this experience I will be able to stand firm and have faith that God will provide all of my needs and allow me to gain the support in order to further His mission.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. And thank you for all of your support, whether financially or through prayer. I cannot express my appreciation for each and every person who has supported in the past, who supports me in the present, and who will support me in the future. Stay connected with me via Facebook and Twitter for more information on upcoming fundraisers, ways you can support, and even at times an encouraging word.

This is my first update on the new website. This site was put together for all those supporting me, anyone who might desire to in the future, and those who are just interested in where I’m at and what I’m doing concerning the journey Jesus is taking me on.

To all my financial supporters,

Thank you all so much! My upcoming trip has been paid for, thanks to you guys. I am thankful, this trip is one of the greatest opportunities I could ever have, especially considering my long-term goal. This trip will be life-changing and possibly life altering at the same time. This has all been made possible because of you and the decision you made to support me, thank you so much.

For the past 9 months I have been living in Oneonta, AL where I am attending a school of ministry and working on staff as an intern with WOC. My journey here has been very exciting and full of God’s grace. My responsibilities include anything from filming and editing videos to cleaning the floors and painting signs. I am always busy learning, growing, and developing as a person as well as a leader. I have to admit, my Pastors are awesome, they have influenced my life in ways I could never explain. God has truly set me in a spacious place. One where I can be free to run, free to think, free to be, and at times, free to fail. During this time I have grown in my intimacy with Jesus. My desire is to walk in His presence and power daily, never forgetting who He is and what He has done, as well as who I am and what He wants to do through me. The closer I become to Him the more He fulfills this desire in me and through me. Our God is one of great love, love for His children who He desires to know most intimately.

As for as the “Big Move”, I am excited to say that I will be moving back to Virginia for the summer. My goal is to raise funds to prepare for the next step in my journey with Christ. I will be working a full-time job as well as organizing fund raisers so that I can meet my goal. I am excited to be home for a few months. I cannot wait to spend time with my family and my friends, as well as minister to the people in that area. The date has not yet been confirmed, but I am planning to come back during the last week of May. I will keep you all posted, thank you for your prayers and support. Praise God,
